Bill Gill for Spotsylvania Sheriff

I was fortunate to asked to do a BBQ for Bill Gill who is running for sheriff of Spotsylvania County on Sunday October 12, 2014.
The event was held at Dominion Eagle Financial Group in Spotsylvania.

Here is a little about Bill from his website http://billgillforsheriff.com

Bill Gill was born in November 1970 in Fairfax, Virginia. Bill has been a resident of

Spotsylvania County, Virginia for 35 years. He is the son of two very hard-working and

dedicated parents the late Raymond Gill III and Lois Gill. They instilled in him that respect as a

person, father, employee, and leader, is something that you earn, based on your actions, morals,

and integrity.

Bill Gill promises as your next Sheriff his life, his purpose, and his passion will be to restore

tradition, prestige and honor to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office. As the sheriff, he will

do what’s morally, ethically and legally right at all times and will hold his staff to that standard.

Bill Gill is a proven leader, dedicated servant and has the youth, vitality, training, and experience

to lead the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and he cherishes the opportunity. As Bill Gill

has stated throughout this journey “it’s not about me it’s about us.”

There were many things to do there. There were 3 sets of corn hole set up for all to enjoy. There was great music and fellowship. Some of the kids even started a pick up football game. The kids enjoyed a pumpkin painting station and of course Bill was available to everyone to ask him question to get to know him better.

Benny Vitali’s Opens in Downtown Fredericksburg

I had the chance to go downtown to try Benny Vitali’s pizza shop. It was incredible! When I first walked in, I could see the countertop with the massive pizza ovens behind. The staff was working at incredible fast pace. The menu was simple and not many selections. But once I got my food I realize there was no need to have a huge selection.

I set at the counter top and watched the cooks as they put these massive pizzas in the oven. It seemed like in no time they were done. When they pulled them out of the oven the cheese was melted perfectly and when they cut them it took up two full paper plates. The crust was crisp but with a slight bend. I chose to cut it with a knife and use of work until I could get towards the middle. For those that were around Fredericksburg in the 1970s it was a place in Parking Shop call Les’s pizza. The pizza reminded me of that. (It also reminded me of pong. That’s where I played my first video game.)

It was all I could do to eat my slice of pizza. They had several different cans and bottles of soda but did not offer fountain drinks. The line quickly backed up to the door. But no one seemed to mind as the pizzas came out of the oven very quickly. Everyone was amazed at the size of the slices. I think Benny Vitali’s have hit on something awesome down there. Everyone knows “do one thing and do it well.” I don’t think you’ll see any chicken fingers subs or anything else on the menu down there. Benny Vitali’s have found their niche downtown Fredericksburg.

Keep Austin Weird

Are you not getting what you want? Here is why…

If you ever get the chance to go to Austin Texas, go! The slogan of Austin is “Keep Austin Weird”. But if you stand back and think about the word “weird” it normally has negative connotations. But if you step back even further you will realize that “weird” is just something we don’t understand.

One of my favorite things about Austin is the different types of food. When weird people use their ideas, they are able to create things that I would have never thought of. So in the spirit of being weird, I got out of my comfort zone and try some different things. I got on Yelp (which is an awesome thing when you travel) and found a local sandwich shop. It was kind of weird because they had a BLT (can’t get too far away from my comfort zone) that the “L” was actually spinach!!

It was noon on Friday, and only had was picnic table sitting outside. Of course you had to share with other people that are weird. I sat next to a young guy who had a dog and was drinking a beer. In the course of the conversation I asked him what he did. He said he was an Internet marketer. Now this guy was about 23 years old. And I’m trying to think of what a 23-year-old guy drinking beer on Friday afternoon with his dog at a sandwich shop would be able to market.

He said that he and his brother developed dailyinfographic.com. I was shocked because I go to that site. He said he had 10,000 to 50,000 unique visitors a day. So my mind starts racing and wondering if he could help build websites for me. He quickly pointed out and said he knew nothing about the backend that he only was a visionary. Visionary!! This 23-year-old weird kid has vision?

Then I really started to think about it that, he was able to go and have lunch with his dog and have a beer (which they give away free on Fridays at the sandwich shop) every Friday. That weird kid was an entrepreneur, he was a business person.

When I got back to Fredericksburg I looked at The 6 Personal Perspectives of Keller Williams Realty. One of the very first things I saw was limiting beliefs. I had to think about my encounter at the weird sandwich shop, with a weird kid, in a weird place. I began to realize that everything seemed quite normal to me.

And by the way, I think I’m feeling a little weird now too…
